Unipol Tower
The challenge
The Unipol Tower in Milan is an emblematic example of urban development and architectural innovation that has redefined the city skyline.
The building stands today as a true architectural jewel, a symbol of a new conception of modern urban spaces.
The tower has 23 above-ground and 3 below-ground floors, with a total area of 31,000 square meters, and is distinguished by a number of remarkable construction solutions:
- Reinforced concrete core load-bearing structure supporting 3-story packages of horizontal floors, in which the lower two floors are suspended by metal ties connected to the upper one;
- Fully glazed double-skin facade, with the outer skin supported by a steel lattice diagrid, anchored to the central core by steel beams;
- Large void running the entire height of the tower, providing comfort and natural ventilation.
Designed by MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects in the Porta Nuova district, the Unipol Tower is part of a large urban redevelopment project. The building, elliptical in shape and 125 meters high, stands out for its double sensory skin,high energy efficiency and the presence of a panoramic greenhouse-garden, integrating sustainable technologies and contemporary design, becoming a new landmark in the Milanese landscape.
